Star Wars Darth Maul Wallet

Watching Star Wars at the theater is much, much more than pure entertainment. First you'll need a place to store your cash and ticket stubs, and what better place than in the Darth Maul Wallet? Darth Maul's piercing eyes and red skin pretty much sum up his personality. Is he the devil's fraternal twin brother? Their resemblance is uncanny.

R2-D2 Back-Buddies Backpack

The wallet is compact and easy to slip in the pocket, but if you're planning to schlep more stuff to the theater it's the R2-D2 Backpack that's going to do the job right. Soft and utilitarian, the pack will serve as a good cushion as well.

Star Wars Darth Vader Lightsaber Umbrella

The weather has been pulling tricks on us lately, having us think Spring is here. If rain is in the forecast for Friday, Star Wars Lightsaber Umbrellas will keep you dry.

LEGO Star Wars Watch with Mini Figure Yoda with Interchangeable Parts

Or perhaps they will check the time with a Lego Star Wars Watch with Mini Figure. Darth Maul, Anakin or Yoda? It's hard to decide.

Star Wars R2-D2 Metal Belt Buckle

R2-D2 and C-3PO will be there to cover your arse (or help keep your pants from falling down) when they star as these 3D Metal Belt Buckles.

Star Wars Mints

After all that popcorn and soda you'll finish before the show even starts, you might want to freshen up withStar Wars Mints in your choice of Darth Vader, Stormtrooper, R2-D2 or the Death Star mint shapes and tins.

Yoda In Your Pocket Talking Keychain

Sound effects and catchy dialogue are part of what make Star Wars so epic. While you're waiting in line, you can entertain/annoy people by playing with theYoda in Your Pocket Talking Keychain.

Sexy Slave Princess Leia and Queen Amidala Costumes

Princess Leia ruled the 80s but her hot mamma Amidala gets her own stint in Phantom Menace. Star Wars femme fatales can dress up as the warrior princesses of Star Wars.

Tip #2: Beware of 'Sextortion'

02/10/12

At the beginning of her summer break in June 2005, a 15-year-old Florida girl logged onto her computer and received a startling instant message. The sender, whom the girl didn't know, said he had seen her photo online and that he wanted her to send him pictures—of her in the shower. When the girl didn't comply, the sender showed he knew where she lived and threatened to hurt the girl's sister if she didn't agree to his demands.

Worried and hoping to avoid alarming her parents, the girl sent 10 black-and-white images. When her harasser said they weren't good enough, she sent 10 more, nude and in color. Then he wanted more.

Listen: Special Agent Nickolas Savage discusses "sextortion" and the dangers kids face online.

Don't Let It Happen to You

Here are a few precautions that can keep you from being victimized by "sextortion":

- Don't take for granted that your computer's anti-virus software is a guarantee against intrusions.

- Turn off your computer when you aren't using it.

- Cover your webcam when not in use.

- Don't open attachments without independently verifying that they were sent from someone you know.

- It's okay to be suspicious. If you receive a message with an attachment from your mother at 3 a.m., maybe the message is not really from your mother.

- If your computer has been compromised and you are receiving extortion threats, don't be afraid to talk to your parents or to call law enforcement.

"Once these individuals have pictures, they want more," said Special Agent Nickolas B. Savage, who interviewed the girl after she and her mother contacted authorities. "They are then able to say, 'I want you to do x, y, and z. And if you don't, I'm going to take these photographs, and I'm going to send them to people in your school. I'll send them to your family.'"

Savage, who at the time managed the Innocent Images National Initiative Task Force in the FBI's Orlando office, spent the better part of the next four years chasing the phantoms that had hacked the 15-year-old's computer. The winding path eventually led to two assailants—Patrick Connolly and Ivory Dickerson—who jointly terrorized adolescent girls by compromising their computers, demanding sexual photos or videos, and scouring their social networks. The pair also reached out to the girls' friends—who were duped into downloading malicious software because the e-mails and messages appeared to come from trusted sources.

Connolly and Dickerson, both in prison now, victimized more than 3,800 kids through this "sextortion" technique that duly preyed on kids' innocence about the Internet and their fear of being exposed to their friends and family.

"Oftentimes children are embarrassed, especially thinking they have somehow contributed to their victimization," said Savage, who now helps lead the Strategic Outreach and Initiaitve Section in the Cyber Division. "So fearing they will get in trouble if they report it, they will continue with the victimization and send individuals what they are requesting. What often happens is the victimization never stops."

In this case, some girls were terrorized over a span of as many as seven years. Some attempted suicide. One dropped out of high school because she was always looking over her shoulder.

To uncover the scheme, the FBI cloned one of the victim's computers and carried on a two-year undercover correspondence with the hacker, who turned out to be Connolly—a British citizen who was at times in Saudi Arabia and Iraq, where he worked as a military contractor and evidently carried out parts of his extortion scheme. The trail also led to North Carolina, where Dickerson was amassing a huge portfolio of pictures and video and secretly recording the webcams of compromised computers. Dickerson was found to have about 230 gigabytes of material, and Connolly had four times that. Dickerson was sentenced in 2007 to 110 years in prison. Three years later, Connolly was sentenced to 30 years.

Savage says locking up the hackers was one of the most rewarding moments in his career. But he knows there are more victims, some who may not know their tormentors are off the streets.

"The thing was, a lot of these kids are just some folder somewhere," Savage said, illustrating the cold nature of the crimes and punctuating that once material is posted online it's out there for all. "No name. Just pictures and videos in a folder. I know that there are so many more victims out there that are wondering, 'What ever happened to those guys?' or, 'Do I still need to be afraid?'"

This story is the second in an occasional series aimed at providing practical web advice and tips for parents and their kids.

iPad covers

Very cute.
From Technabob blog:

Dress Up Your iPad and Laptop in Some Wonder Threads

Posted: 10 Feb 2012 09:00 AM PST

I've been hit with the boredom bug. Every once in a while, I look at the stuff I have and realize that I must be a pretty boring person with all the boring stuff I have lying around. The latest one was my iPad. It's encased in a Smart Cover, which I put inside a generic sleeve. Boring, I know. And whenever that time rolls around, it's time to do something new or something different, and in the case of the iPad, we all know what that means: new sleeves! And the Wonder Threads by Diana Rodgers are just my thing.

wonder threads ipad laptop cases

These attractive sleeves for your tablet and laptop come in two designs: a composition notebook and an interoffice envelope. They're pretty tame to bust out my device from their current state of boringness, but I'm just the type of person who finds it amusing to dress them up in something they aren't (or are they? I mean, it could very well be a notebook, and you can use applications in the device to deliver messages to your colleagues, replacing the need for interoffice envelopes. Just saying.)

Wonder Threads1

The outside of these sleeves are comprised of water repellent microfiber, while the insides are lined with soft fleece. Diana is currently ramping up for a large production run of Wonder Threads, which are currently up for funding on Kickstarter. A minimum pledge of $35(USD) will let you get your hands on one of these fun sleeves.

Lego like blocks

From Technabob blog :

Earth Blocks: Like LEGOs, But Green

Posted: 10 Feb 2012 08:00 AM PST

With all the emphasis on going green or all-natural these days, I think it's just appropriate for toys to follow suit. The first one being LEGOs – or should I say, Earth Blocks.

Earth Blocks

There are two reasons why they're named that way: first of all, they're all in earth tones or colors. Second of all, that's because they're made from stuff derived from the earth like coffee beans, cedar sawdust or cedar bark.

Earth Blocks1

They might not look as attractive as the extremely colorful plastic LEGO blocks, but I think you could definitely teach a thing or two about using eco-friendly stuff to your kids with these blocks. That, and the fact that appearances are just appearances because you can pretty much do the same thing with Earth Blocks and plain LEGO bricks, creating whatever structure your mind can come up with.

Sure, it's not like you typically throw out LEGO bricks, but there are bound to be by-products of manufacturing all that plastic, right? If you're ready to go green with your bricks, you can get a set of 50 Earth Blocks over at theGuggenheim Store for $30(USD).

Surprising Jobs with $100K Salaries -- After Only a Two-Year Degree

Surprising Jobs with $100K Salaries -- After Only a Two-Year Degree

By Charles Purdy, Monster Senior Editor

Think of some typical jobs that pay six-figure salaries, and you likely imagine careers that require four-year college degrees (if not four years plus advanced degrees). The common perception is that a traditional university degree is the only path to financial security and wealth for the average person.
But that's not necessarily true. While some fields require that you have a four-year degree just to get a job interview, there are many other high-earning careers in which typical professionals have two-year degrees -- often known as associate's degrees. According to the compensation experts at PayScale.com, here are five of those fields in which the top 10 percent earn more than $100,000 a year.*

1. Executive Pastry Chef (90th Percentile Pay: $102,000; Median Pay: $45,100)

Talk about the sweet life. Executive pastry chefs work at exotic resorts, on cruise ships and for luxury hotels. They're also found in fine restaurants, specialty patisseries, and the homes of the famous and powerful (including the White House) -- anyplace where there's a need to create delicious, beautiful baked goods on a large scale.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), formal training for chefs can take place at a community college, technical school or culinary school, and two-year degrees are common. Pastry chefs with little formal education can still advance through the ranks to lead a staff. A growing number of chefs participate in training and/or certification programs sponsored by independent cooking schools and organizations; many large hotel and restaurant chains operate their own training programs as well.

2. Master Plumber (90th Percentile Pay: $102,000; Median Pay: $60,000)

As long as we want running water in our homes and business, plumbers will be in demand -- job-outlook forecasts for plumbers are usually very favorable. Whether they work as sole entrepreneurs or for larger companies, plumbers typically spend their time installing and repairing water, waste-disposal, drainage and gas systems and related appliances.

There are many paths to becoming a master plumber, but a common one is through a term of apprenticeship to another master plumber. According to the BLS, most plumbers, pipefitters and steamfitters get their training in jointly administered apprenticeships or in technical schools and community colleges. Most states require that plumbers be licensed; licensing requirements vary, but most localities require workers to have a minimum of two years of experience and pass an examination on the trade and local plumbing codes.

3. Radiation Therapist (90th Percentile Pay: $104,000; Median Pay: $77,100)

Healthcare is commonly cited as an industry with high long-term growth potential, and healthcare jobs can be very rewarding for people who want to help others. Radiation therapists operate machines that help oncology teams diagnose and treat cancer. They work in hospitals or cancer-treatment centers, and unlike many people who work in healthcare, they normally work only during the day.

The BLS reports that professionals in this field generally complete an educational program in radiation therapy or radiography -- many of these are two-year programs that include courses on human anatomy and physiology, physics, algebra, precalculus, writing, public speaking, computer science and research methodology. In 2009, there were 102 accredited radiation-therapy programs in the US, according to the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

4. Intensive-Care Unit Nurse (90th Percentile Pay: $107,000; Median Pay: $71,100)

Some nursing specialties require more training and education than others. However, PayScale.com reports that the typical intensive-care unit (ICU) nurse holds an associate's degree in nursing. ICU nurses are critical-care nurses, according to the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN). In working with critically ill or injured patients, all critical-care nurses serve as patient advocates "responsible for respecting and supporting the basic values, rights and beliefs of a critically ill patient," the AACN says.

The BLS predicts that future job prospects for registered nurses will be excellent; currently, many employers report difficulty attracting and retaining an adequate number of RNs.

5. Sheet-Metal Worker (90th Percentile Pay: $122,000; Median Pay: $63,100)

These workers make, install and maintain a wide variety of products made from metal sheets -- heating and air-conditioning duct systems, roofs, siding, downspouts, restaurant equipment, railroad cars, precision equipment and much more. They do both construction-related work and mass production of sheet-metal products in manufacturing.

Besides having mathematical aptitude, sheet-metal workers need to be in good physical condition and have good hand-eye coordination. (Compared with other skilled-labor jobs, there is a relatively high risk of injury in this profession). According to the BLS, sheet-metal workers learn their trade through both apprenticeships and informal on-the-job training programs. Apprenticeships are more likely to be found in construction.

* Methodology: Salary data provided by PayScale.com. Salaries listed are for orkers with at least five years of experience and include any bonuses, commission or profit sharing. Median pay represents the national median; 90th percentile pay is a benchmark for the top earners: 10 percent of people will earn more, while 90 percent will earn less.
