Lunch art

I wish I had thought of this.

Awesome Graphic Designer Dad Illustrated His Kids' Lunch Bags Since 2008

Some parents make sure their kids eat right by packing their lunches for them. Others go the extra mile to make sure they actually eat it (or have fun with it) by packing the food in bags that just demand for their kid's attention, like dad-slash-graphic designer David LaFerriere.

He's been sending his kids off with lunches packed in illustrated bags nearly every single day since 2008. Do the math and that's easily over a thousand hand-drawn bags since then.

Being the artist and perhaps sentimental father that he is, David has taken a photo of almost every single one and has posted it all on Flickr for the world to see.

Parenting doesn't get any more creative than this.

Stop Motion Post-it Arcade Animation: Sticky Pixels

Posted: 03 Apr 2013 03:00 PM PDT

Okay arcade fans, prepare to have your mind blown. This stop-motion animation made from Post-It notes looks like real arcade game footage. It is completely amazing and has me nerding out. All of your favorites are represented. Well, not all, but several classic games are well represented.

post it pixel animation

It features Ms. Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Mega Man, Zelda and more. What you're about to watch is 5,722 individual still frame images lovingly converted into an animation.

This feat was accomplished by Michael Birkin, who has a lot of free time and an amazing talent. Michael says it took him all of his weekends and holidays for the last 11 months to complete using 4800 Post-its and traditional stop-motion techniques. And while it's possible it could have been computer animated (due to the barely-changing shadows and reflections), it's still the coolest thing you will see all day.

And if Michael isn't an awesome stop-motion animator, he's an awesome computer animator. Either way, it's a win.

Lego spice rack

Hmmmm...I could see these stacked in the kitchen.
Cute!

LEGO Brick Spice Rack: Brick Oven Cooking

Posted: 15 Mar 2013 09:00 AM PDT

You can create all kinds of stuff with LEGO bricks. Then there are all of the things that you can create that look like LEGO bricks, but aren't. Here is a clever creation for that LEGO-themed kitchen you have been dreaming of.

Spice racks are hit and miss. It seems like they are either really nicely designed, or very ugly. This spice rack is most definitely geeky. Therefore it is awesome in my book. It was made by Matthew Ebisu, who wanted to spice up his kitchen with LEGO. Very clever indeed, Matthew.

The body and the studs of this spice rack are made of chipboard and cardboard. And if you want to make one yourself, you can download the design template here. I wonder if you could make one out of actual LEGO bricks

Hylian Banknotes: Link's Aching Back Would Love These

Posted: 15 Mar 2013 11:00 AM PDT

I'm not sure, but the reason why most early video games had coins or gems for currency was because of graphical limitations. It's easier to present a recognizable coin than paper money. But if Link was real I'm sure he'd rather have these neat banknotes instead of Rupees. Especially if one of them has a drawing of him on it.

These lovely bills were made by deviantART member G33k1nd159153, who says that he makes stuff for fun and incidentally would like to "get paid to have that kind of fun someday."

Well G33k1nd159153, perhaps your fake money will be your ticket to getting real money. Your link to the bank, so to speak. Sorry. Check out G33k1nd159153′s deviantART pageto see the images in high resolution.

Lollipop

Now I like lollipops and LOTR, not sure if the two go together.
ICK!

Eye of Sauron Lollipops: Lick into My Eye!

Posted: 15 Mar 2013 02:12 PM PDT

One does not simply walk into the candy store. Though if you did, I'd hope that you and your companions would grab a batch of these spectacular lollipops that look like the Eye of Sauron.

eye of sauron lollipops

They're made by Etsy artist Designer Lollipop, and they're made from isomalt, sugar, corn syrup. I've been told the black sugar on back is made from the souls of the dead- though they actually taste like delicious cherry.

Unfortunately, these lollies are already sold, but I'm sure you could whip up a spell to convince the candy maker to crank out another batch.
